The UNESCO-L’ORÉAL fellowships scheme focuses on UNESCO’s premise that people are the world’s greatest resource and that innovation and excellence, especially among the young women community, deserve to be supported and encouraged through the concerted efforts of the international community. The award of the fellowships constitutes a key strategy through which impetus is being given to the enhancement of the role of women in devising scientific solutions to problems confronting humankind in the twenty-first century.

Oikos UNDP Young Scholars Development Academy
The second annual oikos UNDP Young Scholars Development Academy provides PhD students and young scholars working on poverty and sustainable development from a management or economics perspective a platform to present and discuss their ongoing research projects with fellow students and senior faculty.
Research on inclusive business models, market development and sustainability at the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) is a promising and challenging field for young researchers and PhD students. It calls for a multitude of methods, combination of disciplines in management and economics and new research designs, e.g. experimental development economics.

With the kind support of UNDP’s Growing Inclusive Markets initiative, three grants (travel, fee and accommodation) are available for outstanding young scholars from developing countries.

Grand Challenges in Global Health initiative

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has committed $100 million to encourage scientists worldwide to expand the pipeline of ideas to fight our greatest health challenges. Launched in 2008, Grand Challenge Explorations grants have already been awarded to 262 researchers from 30 countries.


The grant program is open to anyone from any discipline, from student to tenured professor, and from any organization – colleges and universities, government laboratories, research institutions, non-profit organizations and for-profit companies.

Students need to go to as many local conferences that they can.  There is no reason to skip the free conferences. 
The USPHS symposiums cover the various aspects of public health. The 2010 symposium theme is Public Health 2010: The Road Ahead (phscofevents.org) and will be held in San Diego on May 24-27, 2010.

Do you know of individuals that fit the following criteria?

      • Be able to contribute in a meanignful way to the university’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individaul differences. We are especially interested in applications from people of color who are underrepresented in teaching professions, i.e., African-American, Latin American, American Indian or Alaskan Native.
      • Within one to two years of completing Ph.D. , MFA, or Post Doc
      • Desire academic teaching career at an exceptional teaching institution

Oslo Peace Scholarship


The Graduate Studies in International Affairs (GSIA) program in the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, in partnership with the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO) and Bjørknes College, offers one scholarship each year for full-time study in the Master of International Affairs specialising in Peace and Conflict Studies degree program. Tuition fees will be covered by The Australian National University and Bjørknes College; and students will receive some funding towards living costs as a stipend.
