Institut Pasteur in Paris

Three year fellowships are open to American postdoctoral scientist wishing to pursue research at the Institut Pasteur in Paris. Deadline is September 17, 2010.

Women from developing countries: FUNDING


Since 1981 the Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund (MMMF), a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit, public charity, has awarded scholarships to outstanding women from developing countries, who are completing degrees at US/Canadian universities and are committed to improving the wellbeing of women and children in developing countries. Individual MMMF Scholarships are between $12,000-$15,000 and must be used during the 2011-2012 academic year. The MMMF administers the program with support from volunteers affiliated with the World Bank and the World Bank Family Network (WBFN).

Human Rights Watch Fellowships

Human Rights Watch, the international human rights monitoring and advocacy organization, invites applications for its fellowship program. Human Rights Watch is known for its impartial and reliable human rights reporting on over 70 countries worldwide, its innovative and high-profile advocacy campaigns, and its success in affecting the policy of the US and other influential governments toward human rights abusers.

Fellows work full-time for one year with Human Rights Watch in New York, Washington, D.C., or London. (Aryeh Neier fellows work full-time in New York or Washington, DC, and, for an additional year at the ACLU.) Fellows monitor human rights developments in various countries, conduct on-site investigations, draft reports on human rights conditions, and engage in advocacy aimed at publicizing and curtailing human rights violations. Past fellows have conducted research and advocacy on numerous different issues in countries all over the world.

The salary for 2010-2011 fellows will be $55,000, plus excellent employer-paid benefits. The salary for 2011-2012 is currently under review and may be increased.

Round 6 of Grand Challenges Explorations

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is now accepting grant proposals for Round 6 of Grand Challenges Explorations, an initiative to encourage innovative and unconventional global health solutions. Anyone can apply - from any experience level, from any discipline, and from any organization, including colleges and universities, government laboratories, research institutions, non-profit organizations and for-profit companies. 

Grant proposals are being accepted online until November 2, 2010 on the following topics:
  • New! The Poliovirus Endgame: Create Ways to Accelerate, Sustain and Monitor Eradication
  • New! Create the Next Generation of Sanitation Technologies
  • New! Design New Approaches to Cure HIV Infection
  • Create New Technologies to Improve the Health of Mothers and Newborns

FUNDED: International Master in Early Childhood Education and Care

Erasmus Mundus - IMEC Scholarships

Application deadline for none-EU applicants: 1st November 2010

International Master in Early Childhood Education and Care (IMEC) is a two-year international Master Programme (120 ECTS) in Early Childhood Education and Care. All students will follow a given structure, spending at least one semester at all three partner institutions.

IMEC is offered in cooperation between Oslo University College (Norway), University of Malta (Malta), and Dublin Institute of Technology (Ireland).
 

The target groups are teachers, educators, counselors, leaders or other groups who work with education and development issues in preschool and primary school, within central or local government or in private enterprises.

A maximum of 20 students are admitted to IMEC each year, 10 from so-called third countries, 8 from EU/EEA-EFTA countries and 2 from the area of Western Balkans and Turkey.

Erasmus Mundus Systems Biology


This is another great funded Masters degree program...

The Erasmus Mundus master's programme in Systems Biology (euSYSBIO) is a cooperation between KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden (KTH), Instituto Superior Tecnologico in Portugal (IST) and Aalto University school of Science and Technology in Finland. It is a two-year Master's programme including compulsory mobilty for the students. Students enter at KTH or Aalto University and continue in the second year at one of the other two institutions.

The euSYSBIO programme offers education of high international standard as well as cultural experience from two different European countries and a double degree from two universities.

The Centre for Advanced Study Sofia (CAS Sofia) announces a Call for Applications for its 2011/2012 In-Residence Advanced Academia Fellowships in the fields of the humanities and the social sciences.
CAS Sofia is an independent Institute with international and multidisciplinary profile. Located in Sofia, Bulgaria, it promotes high-level scholarship in the social sciences and the humanities. In addition to supporting focus-group research, CAS Sofia invites outstanding scholars to pursue their individual research projects during in-residence periods of up to five months. The invited Fellows participate in the intellectual life and the scholarly community of the Centre (Bulgarian and foreign fellows) while working on projects of their own choice. Fellows receive adequate material and intellectual support and can profit from the Centre’s wide international networks, international seminar- and guest-lecturer programme. CAS Sofia assists Fellows in all practical matters concerning travel, residence and research in Sofia.

International Science Opportunity

This is a great opportunity for MPH students to get science experience in Asia!
The East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) goals are to introduce U.S. graduate students to East Asia and Pacific science and engineering in the context of a research setting, and to help students initiate scientific relationships that will better enable future collaboration with foreign counterparts. Selected students participate in research experiences at host laboratories in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, or Taiwan. All institutes, except Japan, last approximately 8 weeks from June to August. Japan lasts approximately 10 weeks from June to August.

Masters in hydraulic engineering to practicing professionals from developing countries

A UNESCO SUPPORTED PROGRAM ON WATER / FLOODING / RISK MANAGEMENT


During the 2-year programme students start at the Technical University of Dresden, where they complete their first semester with 30 ECTS with courses on hydro-meteorological processes, global change and its impact, flood risk management and GIS. Then the students move to UNESCO-IHE for their 2nd semester with 30 ECTS where they receive courses on modelling for planning, forecasting, control and decision support, hazard mapping, ICT, and fluvial flooding and urban flood disasters. Subsequently, the students move to the Technical University of Catalonia to follow part of their 3rd semester with 20 ECTS with courses on hazards due to flash floods, debris flow, coastal flooding, and climate change. The last part of the 3rd semester is hosted by the University of Ljubljana where students follow courses on spatial planning, and socio-economic and institutional framework of flood risk management to earn 10 ECTS. Each semester provides a number of electives, and there are international fieldtrips. Finally, the students carry out their thesis work (30 ECTS) at one of HIEs or with an industrial partner. Successful candidates receive MSc degrees from the Technical University of Dresden, UNESCO-IHE and the Technical University of Catalonia, Barcelona.
