The Pinchot Institute for Conservation currently has two Research Fellow positions open. Qualified candidates will have a master’s degree in forestry, natural resources, environmental management, or a related field. The Institute is looking for applicants with outstanding academic records, excellent organizational and communications skills, and the ability to write clearly and concisely.
Research Fellows work under the direction of the Institute’s Program Directors and collaboratively with other researchers and policy specialists within and outside the Institute to address a wide range of topics relating to natural resource conservation and environmental policy. At present the Institute is seeking candidates for two positions:
Drinking Water Greenway Fund
Private forests provide critical protection of surface water quality and clean drinking water. The Pinchot Institute is facilitating the development of new financial mechanisms to link downstream water users with upstream forest conservation efforts. This Research Fellow will play a key role in the development of incentive program mechanisms, perform research on forest management practices and the economic benefits of source water protection, and assist with the coordination of project partners.
Bay Bank
Natural resources provide a wide range of essential public services, from protecting water quality and wildlife habitat to mitigating climate change. New forms of conservation financing through the development of market-based programs are needed to ensure these values are protected and ecosystem services are sustained in the future. This Research Fellow will coordinate the development of practical methods for quantifying, valuing, transacting, and tracking ecosystem services provided by agricultural and forested lands.
